The Dutch clarinettist Fie Schouten performs at many different podia and festivals all over the world and she is professor bass clarinet at the Prince Claus Conservatory Groningen (NL).
She studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam – clarinet and bass clarinet (with Harry Sparnaay ao).
As a specialist in performing new music, Schouten can be heard extensively with her own ensembles (ao trio To be Sung). Many new pieces are written for and premiered by these groups. She collaborates often with artists from another discipline: dancers, visual artists and poets.
Fie Schouten performed as soloist different works from Karlheinz Stockhausen, in Thursday of Light; Klang-cycle; Sunday of Light; Wednesday of Light with the German ensemble musikFabrik, the Dutch ASKO-Schönberg, the English Birmingham Opera Company and the French ensemble Le Balcon.
She won prizes on competitions (Gaudeamus, Illzach, Tera de Marez Oyens) and produced three own cd’s.
Together with bass clarinettist Tobias Klein she founded a new bass clarinet forum: www.bassclarinet.nl.
